Flames of Vengeance is the new film based on Stephen King ‘s science fiction thriller novel published in 1980. This 2022 version starring Ryan Kiera Armstrong , Zac Efron and Sydney Lemmon tells us the story of a family with skills and that is wanted by a secret government agency.
In the beginning of this new adaptation, we witness a scene of Andy (Efron) and Vicky McGee (Lemmon) in their baby’s room. Many close-ups that evidenced the love and affection towards little Charlie are broken when she is set on fire because of her ability. The father, after seeing how his daughter set herself on fire, wakes up covered in a cold sweat that keeps him awake.
Originally titled Firestarter , the production is an attempt to bring a story from the ’80s to the present day. There is in the film an adaptation to what is happening today and to the technology that we have in the hands of Keith Thomas , who also directed Arcane (2017) and The Vigil (2019) , and a script by Scott Teems . This worked since it was not forced and they were able to demonstrate -through the protagonists’ lack of WiFi for their safety- that need to be connected at all times.
We could make several comparisons between the two films. For example, that the oldest narrates the McGee’s past through a dream, while this year’s does it with a compilation of scenes -as if they were archive material-, producing a cut in the film.
