Romeo Montague is smitten with Rosaline, a stunning woman (Kaitlyn Dever). However, they are only permitted to meet in secret because she is a Capulet and their families have been rivals for many years. For a very long time, Rosaline’s father (Bradley Whitford) wanted to marry her, but she despises the generally older, wealthy males. She prefers to travel, educate herself, and train to become a cartographer.
She also doesn’t want to learn anything about her most recent prospective spouse, Dario, a young soldier who doesn’t even have a lot of money and is also to blame for Rosaline’s tardiness in arriving to a Capulet masquerade party when she should have been able to dance with Romeo.
Ironically, Romeo meets Juliet, Rosaline’s younger cousin, at this event and falls in love with her right away. Rosaline is distraught that her lover has decided to end their relationship overnight. She devises a scheme to once more separate the young lovers since she will not tolerate it. Dario unexpectedly steps in to help her, showing that he might not be as terrible as first believed.
